ASCS Patriot Sprints Invade Genesee This
Saturday
Rich Vleck, BATAVIA, NY
(July 20, 2008)- After a weekend off for both
the Genesee Speedway and the ASCS Patriots,
the two are ready to come together for the
only time this year to return to action.
For the first time ever, the
ASCS Patriot Sprint
Region runs a full-point show at
the 1/3-mile Genesee Speedway this Saturday
for the Bill Alhart Memorial presented by
Gater News Online. This event will mark the
halfway point for the Patriots, who have
already enjoyed an exciting 2008 season.
Former ASCS Patriot
Regular Mike Lauterborn is now in his second
year of promoting the Batavia, NY facility.
It has always been his dream to host a sprint
car event, and this will be his first chance
to have a Patriot race.
The race is being held
in honor Lauterborn’s sprint car Crew Chief
and former Genesee Race Director Bill Alhart,
who was tragically killed on his way to a race
last Fall.
The Gater Racing News
will be presenting the night of racing through
their new E-Gater Format. This online edition
can be found at
www.GaterNews.com.
Bryan Howland, of Auburn,
NY, has won the last two ASCS Patriot events
and currently leads the overall standings by
24 points over 2007 runner-up Jared Zimbardi.
Howland scored a top-five in his only trip to
the Genesee County Fairgrounds last season.
In that event, in which
the Patriots co-sanctioned, defending series
champion “Cobra” Chuck Hebing showed off his
ability to adapt to any oval, conquering the
slick 1/3-mile. Coming home in second in that
event was fellow Ontario, NY resident Mike
Stelter. Stelter has been campaigning a
Genesee Speedway logo on his car so far in
2008 and has been planning for this Saturday,
one of his best opportunities at his first
career ASCS Patriot Win.
While Hebing and Stelter
were out front at the end of the night, Kyle
Moffit, Jared Zimbardi and Scott Kreutter were
all fast at the beginning of the night in a
special time-trial format. Look for that trio
of 20-somethings to content again this
Saturday.
Also on the card will be
the Castle Late Models, the Power Trip Street
Stocks, the PDI Mini Stocks, the DML Bandits
and an open-draw event for the Troyer
Sportsman. Racing will begin as always at
6:00 p.m. For more information, visit
www.GeneseeSpeedway.com.
